On the morning of March 27 (Wednesday), principal Matsugaki Masahiko led approximately 17 teachers and students from Seijo University in Japan to visit our school. It was the first visit since we established a sister-school relationship with Seijo University.
We’ve been actively interacting with Seijo High School for some time, and their students had visited our campus several times before the pandemic. Due to the shared vision of pursuing an excellent international perspective, the principals of both schools decided to establish a sister school in 2023. Seijo High School hence became our partner institution, marking our fourth sister school.
At the beginning of the welcome ceremony, both principals delivered speeches in each other's language, impressing teachers and students at the scene. Consequently, exclamations and ovations frequently echoed in the auditorium, creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Professor Matsugaki from Seijo High School specifically mentioned that it was also his first visit to Hsinchu High School. Upon arrival, he was touched by the kindness and warmth of our teachers and students. As a result, he expressed his hope to continue interacting with us in such a positive and supportive atmosphere.
After arriving at our school on the afternoon of March 26, 13 students from Seijo High School were accompanied by the hospitable host families to experience the customs and food of the Zhumiao community. The next morning, March 27, they attended school with their homestay classmates for half a day. Later, after the welcome ceremony, the reception and exchange activities included performances by the Chinese Music Club, campus cultural introductions, campus tours by the HCHS student ambassadors, and cultural breakthrough activities. There were five cultural breakthrough activities in total, delicately planned by the HCHS Ambassador Team. One of the most distinctive activities at the school was the creation of leaf rubbing. After collecting unique leaves on our campus with our students, they used simple tools such as an eraser to print the leaf texture on colored paper. Next step, they stored this commemorative paper in a card holder, and a memorable experience in their hearts. In addition, Mr. Shi Jie carefully selected twenty artworks where our students combined Chinese characters during the art course. These were then used in a "Chinese Character Guessing" game, and whoever answered correctly would receive exquisite bookmarks. This activity was highly appreciated by both teachers and students at Seijo High School.
Theperfect conclusion to this exchange was a Chinese-Japanese chorus, with students from both schools singing "手紙 ~拝啓 十五の君へ" together. Our students even practiced Japanese and sang with students from Seijo High School. Seeing photos of a group of energetic and cheerful teenage boys, all the teachers and students present were moved by their beautiful singing voices. Through these exchange and breakthrough activities, students from two different countries shared a memorable youth experience that would certainly be engraved on the mind of each participant for a long time.
We are committed to strengthening our bond with Seijo High School in the future. Moreover, our school will continue organizing various exchange activities with sister schools to experience cultural differences, broaden our horizons and thus foster a better global perspective.
