On the afternoon of December 8, Principal Lee Byung-jin of Gyeonggibuk Science High School in South Korea led forty-two teachers and students on a visit to HCHS. This was their second visit to Taiwan, following a four-year hiatus in exchanges due to the pandemic outbreak in 2019.
Since Gyeonggibuk Science College established a sister school relationship with our school in 2005, the two schools have maintained a strong friendship, and the two schools hold academic exchanges and visits every year. This reception was planned by the Academic Affairs Office and co-organized by the HCHS ambassador, gifted math class, astronomy club, and other students to welcome these friends from afar.
This year's delegation from Gyeonggi Buk Science High School was led by Principal Lee Byung-jin and Parent President Kim Mi-jin. A total of six teachers and thirty-seven students participated in a two-day exchange activity.
During the opening ceremony, two HCHS students, Kim and Rao, served as ambassadors. Their fluency in Korean surprised many students. Principal Li Bingzhen also gave a speech in fluent Chinese, which surprised everyone. Then a campus tour was conducted to introduce the historical buildings and cultural landscapes on the Hsinchu High School campus. The atmosphere was enlivened by the questions and interactions, allowing the guests to get to know the campus while communicating with HCHS students. The tour guide, Luo, said that the Korean students were very enthusiastic, and many students eagerly rushed to answer questions, creating a vibrant and lively atmosphere.
After the welcome party, Gyeonggibuk Sister School participated in the school's anniversary concert without a break, providing choir and guitar performances that added an exotic touch to the concert.
The highlight of the exchange was the school sports day on December 9. Teachers and students from Science High School also attended our school's Sports Day and enjoyed the creative performances of our students as they entered the venue. The most eye-catching moment of the day was when our Korean friends waved the Korean flag in one hand and recorded the rare scene with their cell phones in the other. They also participated in a competition with the music class and experienced our school's emphasis on unity and cooperation. Afterwards, they had an exchange with the students of the Astronomy Club. Throughout the two-day event, students from the gifted math class accompanied and hosted the visitors. At 2:00 p.m. on the second day, all participants made a perfect end to the successful exchange visit. At the end of December, our gifted mathematics class will make a return visit. We believe that through these exchange activities we can broaden the horizons of students from both schools and build international friendships.
